gds GmbH introduces a greatly expanded release of its XML content management system to the market with version XR Livorno 2.4.4. The new version comes with practical features for editorial departments that want to structure their content more efficiently, produce more targeted translations, and make their publications more media-rich.
Clarity in complex structures thanks to variant preview
A central highlight of the new release: the variant preview allows for specific document structure filtering. Content can be shown or hidden depending on the variant profile – ideal for modular documentation with a number of variants.
Translate only new content
The partial translation feature automatically detects which content has changed – and saves you the cost of unnecessary translation. Existing translations are reused, which saves time and ensures consistency.
Review hub optimizations and productive workflows
The window size and position of the review hub now stay the same when a new window is opened – even after screen changes. Existing production settings can now also easily be copied and reused.
Multiple selection and clipboard
Multiple modules, placeholders, and containers can now be selected at once and edited collectively. The new clipboard processes various element types, supports drag & drop, and can be cleared completely as needed.
Direct media integration via toolbar
Media such as PDFs and videos can now be added directly to the editor via the toolbar – without extra intermediate steps. This makes it easier to create multi-media content.
Technical optimizations in style packages
Language-specific fixtext files make maintenance easier. Publication logs are now more structured and offer better filter options. Customer-specific style packages can be adapted for PDF (Miramo): and HTML 5 – this is not necessary for any other output format.
Conclusion
“Many of the improvements are based directly on feedback from our users,” says Tobias Kreimann, ECMS Product Manager at gds. “XR Livorno makes everyday editorial work noticeably easier, reduces manual effort, and provides a better overview of complex structures – it truly boosts efficiency in technical documentation.”
