Printing optimized: Dubliner ‚Independ-ent‘ capitalise on technotrans-solutions

Sassenberg/Dublin, October 13, 2015 – Tradition meets modern technology: Ireland's best-selling daily newspaper, the Irish Independent, successful uses technology made by technotrans AG. Last year the printing units of the long-established newspaper company were equipped with 64 new spray dampening units of the deltaspray line and with a cross-flow filtration system type delta.f 140. Thanks to the technology provided by the German company, the Irish printing company can print much more efficiently and reliably than before and also reduce maintenance costs.

„All of our requirements were fulfilled. The new technotrans systems have been running absolutely reliably for about nine months“, reports Bernhard Paustenbach, Technical Manager Electronics at Independent Newspaper (Ireland) Limited. The success of the retrofit in Dublin is clearly visible – not only in the print result, because since then the system has been in continuous use, running virtually maintenance-free: During the day, three different newspaper editions are printed on the presses, with a further four during the night.

New technology for higher efficiency
The precise dampening solution application has greatly improved the quality of the print result in Ireland. Also the nozzle cleaning is now easy, as the technotrans spray dampening units are equipped with self-cleaning nozzles, which do not require any active compressed air. The thus extended service life and the low wear further enhance productivity. "We have been using this technology successfully in numerous systems for more than six years", explains Alois Scharf, head of the Ink & Fluid Technology Business Unit. „And the user feedback is very positive in every way“.

Suitable filters for consistently clean process
In addition to the spray dampening unit, Independent Newspapers also ordered the cross-flow filtration system delta.f. It ensures a continuous filtration of the dampening solution. The result is a perfectly clean system, from the dampening solution tank up to the dampening units of the printing units. The ceramic membrane of the system ensures high quality filtration and separates oily contaminants. Thus, the quality of the damping solution remains consistently high and has a positive effect on the process stability. This benefits both printing companies and the environment: Dampening solution waste, the correspondent disposal costs and the need for new additives and hardened osmosis water are thereby significantly reduced.
