Record number of new apprentices: 65 technotrans trainees start their careers

  • 54 percent more apprentices than the previous year (2022: 42)
  • As from September, technotrans will employ a total of more than 140 apprentices (2022: 109)
  • Trainees are an important factor for tackling the skills shortage

The technotrans group welcomes 65 new apprentices and students in the dual education programme throughout the entire group of companies – the highest figure ever. At the Sassenberg headquarters, the number of young professionals starting out at the company has more than doubled from 17 to 36, and in Meinerzhagen the increase is from 12 to 16. As from September of this year technotrans will have a total of more than 140 apprentices at all its locations – compared to 109 in 2022. This increase underlines the growing importance of in-house trainees for the technology provider when it comes to tackling the skills shortage. On average, the training quota at the German branches is around ten per cent. In 29 different occupations in all, technotrans offers its apprentices a great deal of variety, close supervision and long-term career prospects at the company.

“Training is one of the most important tools when it comes to securing the growing demand for skilled workers - and its importance will continue to grow in the future,” says Anna-Lena Freese, HR Business Partner and Head of Training at technotrans headquarters in Sassenberg. “For this reason, we are particularly pleased to welcome so many committed young people to technotrans this year.” After a welcome day at the various locations, the skilled workers of tomorrow get started right away: They get down to a varied training programme with exciting projects in which they are provided with individual support by technotrans mentors. These are mainly current and former apprentices who share first-hand tips and experience with the new apprentices and provide them with active support.

In addition, technotrans offers its trainees security, long-term career prospects and numerous development opportunities. “Every apprentice starting with us basically has a guarantee of being taken on and a whole host of different opportunities for becoming integrated in the company,” says Freese. The fact that this approach is paying dividends is evident from a look at the workforce of the thermal management specialist: Numerous long-standing employees began their careers as apprentices at technotrans – some of them now work in management positions today.

Year round recruitment

That technotrans was able to increase the number of apprentices from 42 in 2022 to 65 this year, despite a nationwide shortage of applicants, is the result of comprehensive recruitment efforts – throughout the whole year. Once the positions for a training year have been filled, recruitment for the following year begins again immediately afterwards. Here technotrans continues to focus on personal contact in the form of internships and visits to schools and job fairs in order to talk directly to applicants. “We repeatedly find that potential apprentices very much appreciate the contact, especially after the restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the last few years,” explains Alexandra Haufer, Management Assistant and Head of Training at the Meinerzhagen site.

technotrans plans to expand its training capacities even further over the coming years and also increase the number of dual education programme places. At the same time, the technology provider is continuously working to further improve the quality of its training. “The situation in the recruitment market will continue to pose major challenges for all industrial companies in the future. Thanks to our early and comprehensive efforts in the area of training, we are confident that we will continue to attract large numbers of new apprentices in the coming years,” says Freese.
