Powerful battery cooling solutions for electric vehicles / technotrans extends the area of application of its solutions to special-purpose vehicles / Smart cooling concepts for charging cables

Innovator for e-mobility cooling solutions: technotrans SE will present its expanded portfolio of cooling solutions for mobile and stationary lithium-ion batteries at this year's Battery Show in Stuttgart on 28-30 April. With its strong specialisation in fluid technology, technotrans has opened up new areas of application for its products: The proven systems, which have been used for road and rail vehicles for quite some time, will now also be installed in electric lorries and special vehicles used at airports, seaports and in the mining industry. In addition, technotrans will also showcase powerful cooling solutions for charging cables and fast-charging stations.

Electromobility is becoming increasingly important in light of the ongoing climate debate. As a result, this sector is clearly a very dynamic high-growth market offering numerous opportunities. "A key aspect without which the technology would hardly exist is our core competence: efficient and application-specific cooling solutions," says Christian Walczyk, head of sales of industrial solutions at technotrans. "A specific challenge of electromobility applications is that they need to be highly customised. In addition, there is only extremely limited space for the integration of the necessary equipment."

Accessing new areas of application
The presentation at the Battery Show 2020 will be centred on bespoke solutions for all types of electromobility applications. In this context, technotrans can benefit from years of experience in this field. In addition to electric buses, tramways and regional trains, which are all equipped with cooling systems for lithium-ion batteries, the company now also integrates its cooling solutions into automated heavy-goods vehicles used at seaports as well as into electric lorries and vehicles which are used at airports and in the mining industry.

Electric vehicles are an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional solutions, as they ensure long-term CO2 reduction. Maintaining a constant temperature of the batteries is an essential factor for the reliable operation and a long service life of the high-performance batteries used in electric vehicles. "Our zeta.line has been specifically developed for mobile applications. The units ensure optimum temperatures and they also increase the efficiency of the batteries, which is key to long-lasting electromobility applications," explains Walczyk.

Effective cooling also during the charging process
However, precise temperature control is a must not only for the vehicle itself, but also for the charging stations. This is why technotrans will also present cooling concepts for stationary systems. The main focus lies on charging cable cooling solutions for fast-charging stations (high-power charging applications). In this context, technotrans offers charging cable cooling modules with active as well as passive cooling. These compact modules can be integrated in the charging stations. The product portfolio is further complemented by distributed cooling systems for charging parks where central refrigeration units cool groups of several charging stations.
