termotek presents a new Peltier-based cooling unit at the Photonics West exhibition

High number of visitors and positive feedback/Cooling system for lower power ranges in the focus/The new cooling unit with a particularly low noise level is compact, efficient and precise

termotek strikes a chord with the laser industry: The company from Baden-Baden presented its wide range of cooling systems for laser applications at the SPIE Photonics West exhibition in San Francisco. Visitors were particularly interested in the new Peltier-based cooling unit. With this new solution, termotek clearly meets the growing need of the laser industry for systems with lower cooling power ranges. As a result, the company received several project enquiries and was able to liaise with numerous manufacturers.

"Photonics West is an important indicator for trends in the laser industry. After four successful days, our verdict is clearly positive," says Jan Kröger, managing director of termotek. "The number of promising contacts has once again risen this year and we were able to meet the demands of the industry with our products."

The company with a strong specialisation in the field of compact liquid cooling systems presented new as well as already proven solutions during the exhibition. In view of the growing demand for efficient cooling systems for lower power ranges, compact devices in particular are increasingly taking the spotlight and are generating a lot of interest among laser manufacturers and users. This is why the new, space-saving cooling solution based on the Peltier technology was an instant success among visitors. termotek has presented this system for the first time at the Photonics West exhibition. It is particularly suitable for lower cooling power ranges between 200 W and 750 W requiring a very high level of temperature accuracy.

Peltier technology for precise temperature control
The production of cold of the new cooling unit based on Peltier elements is realised with the aid of plate-shaped semiconductors. Voltage is applied to these elements. As a result, one side of the plate becomes cold and the other one hot. Cold is produced because the heat is dissipated into the atmosphere and the cold is transferred into water via a heat exchanger. Compared to conventional units, this cooling system offers a range of important advantages: As the unit does not rely on any moving parts for producing cold - unlike compressors - there are no vibrations or sound emissions. In addition, the semiconductor plates react extremely fast and they instantly adapt their output in the event of voltage changes. This enables a fast and precise control of the feed flow temperature. Furthermore, the units do not include any refrigerant, thereby eliminating the risk of leaks.

"Factors such as power density, low-noise operation and flexibility are still the most important buying criteria when it comes to laser cooling units which is why we put them in the focus when we develop new solutions," explains Kröger.
